Mary Horowitz ist exzentrisch und schrill - und arbeitet als Kreuzworträtsel-Autorin bei einer Tageszeitung. Als ihre Eltern ihr ein Blind Date organisieren, verliebt sie sich Hals über Kopf in den coolen Kameramann Steve, der jedoch schnell genervt ist und die Flucht ergreift. Mary lässt jedoch nicht locker und heftet sich an seine Fersen. Angestachelt wird sie dabei vom selbstverliebten Nachrichtenreporter Hartman Hughes, der mit Steve zusammenarbeitet und ihm nur zu gern das Leben schwer macht...
