Lehrerin Gail und ihr Mann Tom unternehmen mit Sohn Mark einen Rafting-Ausflug auf einen einsamen Gebirgsfluß, um die kriselnde Ehe wieder ins Lot zu rücken. Auf ihrer Reise durch die Wildnis schließen sich zwei undurchsichtige Fremde dem Unternehmen an, die sich als flüchtige Raubmörder entpuppen und die Familie als Geiseln nehmen. Es kommt zu einer mörderischen Konfrontation, bei der sich die Familienbande als stärker erweisen.
