Armand und Albert sind ein glückliches Paar. Ihren Lebensunterhalt verdienen sie als Travestie-Künstler in dem Amüsierlokal "Birdcage". Da taucht unvermittelt Armands verschollener Sohn Val auf und verkündet, dass er die Tochter des erzkonservativen Senators Keeley heiraten will. Doch damit nicht genug. Vals Schwiegereltern in spe sind bereits auf dem Weg, um ihre zukünftige Verwandtschaft kennenzulernen. Und nichts würde sie mehr schockieren, als ein schwules Liebesnest voller schriller Vögel...
