Mühelos löst er die für die Studenten angeschriebenen Aufgaben. Doch als der eigensinnige Will nach einer Schlägerei im Gefängnis landet, liegt sein Schicksal in den Händen des Therapeuten Sean Maguire. Nach und nach findet der exzentrische Psychologe Zugang zu dem verschlossenen jungen Mann und bringt ihn dazu, sich seinen Gefühlen, Ängsten und letztlich auch seiner Zukunft zu stellen.
